CURSOR / HISTORY

Where Cursor chat history lives

Cursor chat history lives in the Agents sidebar for day-to-day browsing and in local files on your Mac when you need the raw store. AIChatMemory is independent of Cursor; this page covers Cursor’s UI and typical macOS paths.

Browse in the editor

Recent agent and chat threads appear in the Agents sidebar (View → Agents). Use the built-in search in the Agents window to filter by title or content. Cursor CLI users can list chats with commands such as cursor agent ls where supported.

Local data on macOS

Cursor stores workspace state under ~/Library/Application Support/Cursor/User/, including SQLite state.vscdb files per workspace. Newer builds also write agent transcript files under project folders (for example .cursor agent transcript paths). Layout changes between releases; the UI list is usually the fastest path when it matches what is on disk.

Limits of local-only history

History stays on each Mac unless you export or sync manually. Switching machines, reinstalling, or a corrupted workspace db can make threads hard to reach even when files still exist.

What a separate archive adds

AIChatMemory reads Cursor, Claude Code, and Codex chats from your Macs, masks them before upload, and keeps one workspace archive. Any MCP client can search, count, or pull a full masked chat with session. Masking is not a guarantee that no sensitive text remains.
