AI chat history: web chats and coding-agent chats
AI chat history means different storage depending on the product: browser assistants keep threads in your account; Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor write transcripts on your Mac. AIChatMemory archives the coding-agent kind—not ChatGPT or Claude web exports.
Web and app assistants (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini)
These products save conversations in the vendor cloud tied to your login. You search inside their UI, archive or delete threads, and export through each product’s settings (for example ChatGPT Data Controls or Claude privacy export). That history rarely includes terminal tool calls, repo paths, or masked engine output from your Mac.
Coding agents on your Mac
Claude Code, OpenAI Codex CLI, and Cursor keep working transcripts locally—JSONL, SQLite, or workspace databases—not in the same inbox as web chat. Resume commands reopen one local session; they do not search every repo or every Mac you use.
What AIChatMemory covers
AIChatMemory uploads masked coding-agent chats from your Macs into one workspace archive. Agents use MCP search, count, and session to pull past work across machines. It does not import ChatGPT or Claude web ZIP exports today. Masking is not a guarantee that no sensitive text remains.
