CODEX / RESUME

Resume a Codex CLI session

Codex resume reopens a past OpenAI Codex CLI thread on this Mac: pick from a list, jump to the latest session, or open a session id. AIChatMemory is independent of OpenAI; this page covers Codex’s built-in commands first.

Open the session picker

From your project directory, run codex resume to browse saved sessions for that folder. Add --all when you want sessions from other directories too.

Continue the latest session

codex continue and codex resume --last both reopen the most recent session tied to your current working directory, with full transcript context.

Switch threads inside Codex

During an active session, /resume opens the same picker without leaving the CLI. When Codex prints a session id at the end of a run, you can run codex resume <session-id> to return to that thread directly.

When resume is not enough

Resume only sees Codex history on this Mac. It will not find a fix discussed on your laptop at home, a session that aged out of the picker, or a phrase you remember but not the id. AIChatMemory collects Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor chats, masks them on your Mac, and lets agents query them through one MCP. Masking targets secrets and credential files; it is not a guarantee that no sensitive text remains.
